Join our Volunteer Team!

This charity would not exist without the incredible support of volunteers. Not only is volunteering the backbone of this charity but it has a positive impact on the volunteers themselves. It can be a way of trying something new and gaining new skills, knowledge and experience whilst feeling valued and part of a team. Our volunteer community has an army of just over 1,100 registered volunteers who create precious items for us from their own homes.

There are three main ways you can help us through volunteering:
You can become a volunteer Seamstress, a volunteer Knitter or Crocheter, or if you are local to Dover, Kent by volunteering to help in our shop or office.

Becoming a Volunteer Seamstress

To become a volunteer Seamstress you do need some sewing experience, and you will also need to have your own sewing machine. To maintain our high-quality standards these items unfortunately cannot be hand sewn. You will need to complete a trial gown as part of our application process to become a volunteer Seamstress for the charity.

Join our Knitting Team

Anyone can volunteer to be a knitter or Crocheter, and we can even try to help you learn! We have volunteers aged 5 to 105 who make hats, booties, and blankets for the charity, and we have a selection of patterns that you can follow. These knitted items are just as important as the gowns that we create as every gown is made into a complete outfit for the precious babies that we dress.

Become an Office Team Member

If you are local to Dover, Kent you can also join our office team as a volunteer. The office volunteers do a whole range of jobs from deconstructing wedding dresses, sorting post, packaging Cherished Gowns and liaising with hospitals & funeral directors, to helping brides chose their special Wedding Dress in our preloved shop, and dressing the shop windows! No experience is necessary!
